Costa del Sol Restaurante, Hartford CT Reviews

  • “Spain on this side of the pond!” – Reviewed November 15, 2014: This meal was incredible… Wonderful paella …with an incredible date…. Toda es perfecta…. The owner is a native from Galicia… He knows and serves the best Native Spanish food… Romantic atmosphere.
  • “Bravo” – Reviewed November 11, 2014 : This is a restaurant you can count on. It has a gated parking area under bright lights, a real plus in the city. Unlike many of today’s restaurants, you can actually have a conversation. It offers consistently fine service with a very professional wait staff. Francisco was especially friendly and helpful in accommodating a food intolerance. Good martinis, Spanish beer and wine started us off. The grilled squid appetizer was perfectly prepared and the paella de la casa and paella marinara we four ordered were delicious. We closed with their sinfully rich cheesecake and cappuccino. All in all, a lovely evening was had by all. You can see why they’ve been in business so long.
  • “Perhaps Hartford’s Best Restaurant”– Reviewed November 8, 2014: In the southernmost part of Hartford sits the Costa del Sol, a Spanish restaurant deservedly beloved by locals. It has been around for more than a quarter of century, and the menu hasn’t undergone dramatic changes. There are two soups that have been offered since it opened: a Caldo Gallego with white beans and ham, and a Sopa de Pescado, with fish and mussels. They’re both excellent, perfectly seasoned, and served in generous portions. The appetizers feature seafood, including octopus with Spanish paprika, but there’s also a fantastic sausage dish (chorizo) braised in red wine for the less adventurous. Several paellas are always offered, and they’re as good as what we’ve had in Spain. Dining as a foursome several days ago, we had three different entrees: a pasta dish with shrimp and artichokes and bacon, a rib eye with chimichurri sauce, and a grilled tuna special; everyone was more than satisfied. Desserts are fine too, especially the flan, although we’ve often been too full to order them.Costa del Sol’s interior is warm and inviting, the staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the prices reasonable. Through the years we must have been there thirty times, most recently last week, and it has never disappointed. Definitely worth your while if you find yourself in Central Connecticut.

  • “The Real Deal” – Reviewed October 5, 2013: I have been coming to Costa Del Sol for the past ten years and I have to give Pepe and his staff full credit for taking me from a food novice to someone who has made great food and dining the centerpiece of my life. This is arguably the best and well-rounded restaraunt in Connecticut. Although the location takes a back seat to West Hartford Center and Downtown (especially with people around my age: late 20’s to early 30’s) it makes up for it with the service and traditional Spanish cuisine. The restaraunt is family-run (including the chef) and the service is as professional as it gets. The quaint bar area is great as well if you are looking for something a little more relaxed. You may even find Pepe at the bar with you enjoying some wine and the Red Sox. I have seen first hand that he treats every patron as if they have been dining at the restaraunt as long as I have. It’s very comforting. I highly reccomend this restaraunt to anyone looking for a great dining experience.

  • Zagat Review : “To-die-for paella” and an “interesting” menu of Spanish seafood, meats and tapas complemented by “fruity sangria” have partisans proclaiming that this “cozy, inviting” family-run standby has been “honed to perfection” over the years; reasonable prices, a “friendly, helpful” staff and “elegant” surroundings help entice loyalists back “again and again.”
